Jag Guthmann-Chester wins his first trial

Dec 05, 2014

Trainee apprentice Jag Guthmann-Chester took one step closer in his goal to becoming a jockey earlier this week, when he took part in his first official trial.

Jag competed in heat two at the Gold Coast trials on Tuesday and was onboard the four year gelding, Fun.

Under the Racing Queensland guidelines, apprentices must complete 25 trials to stewards satisfaction before they can be granted a license to ride in races.

The result couldn't have been better for the sixteen year old, who guided Fun to the lead and kept him going strongly to the line.  Fun was first past the post and the effort from Jag was faultless.

Jag joined the Bruce Hill team late last year and had previously never ridden.  He has come along way in such a short time and has taken everything in his stride.
