Bodega Negra proves too good

Sep 03, 2013

The Bruce Hill stable unleashed another promising three year old on Saturday with Bodega Negra taking out the Mother Energy QTIS Handicap at Doomben.

Having only his second race start, the Hidden Dragon gelding appreciated the addition of blinkers and the step up in distance to 1350m.

Given a lovely ride by jockey Kelvin Wharton, Bodega Negra settled midfield and travelled comfortably throughout the run.  He proved far too strong in the straight, surging to the front to hold out the fast finishing Olympic Anthem by a length.

Purchased at last year’s Magic Millions QTIS sale for $46,000 by Bruce Hill, Bodega Negra collected a cool $57,000 for Saturday’s win.
