Crashing breaks through
Aug 09, 2013
Crashing recorded his first win this week by taking out the Mount Franklin Maiden Handicap at Doomben on Wednesday.
Things finally came together for the four year old who has been plagued by wet tracks since returning from a spell. Beautifully ridden by Kelvin Wharton, Crashing settled at the rear of field and slowly worked his way forward into the race. He kicked clear in the straight to score by just under four lengths over race favourite Shattering with third placegetter Insolent a further two lengths away.
It’s been a long road for the son of Sequalo. He raced twice as a two year old before having a long lay off in which he had surgery to correct a wind problem. He was also gelded and on his return to racing trainer Bruce Hill worked out the gear changes necessary to correct a few of his bad habits.
Hill has never doubted his ability and Crashing’s win was a great reward for his owners. They have all shown a lot of patience with him and it’s great to see that it’s finally paying off.
