Karaka Storm breaks through for Maiden win

Mar 20, 2013

Karaka Storm recorded his first win from just his forth start last Sunday by taking out the Yalumba Wines Maiden Handicap over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast.

Jumping from barrier three, the four year old was able to take a position on the fence and traveled comfortably near the back of the field.  With the rail out nine metres, jockey Paul Hammersley elected to stay on the fence and luck came his way when he was able to sneak up inside the leaders and hold off race favourite Moringa's Mo Jo by a long neck.

Trainer Bruce Hill was very pleased with the the win of the lightly raced gelding who was only have his second start for him after being transferred from the Chris Waller stable last month.
