Russian Rocker scores Queensland victory

Feb 26, 2013

UK import Russian Rocker recorded his second career win last Thursday by taking out the Hot 91.9 Class 2 Handicap over 2000m on the Sunshine Coast Cushion track.

Given a perfect ride by jockey Damian Browne, the four year old was taken back from the wide draw and traveled comfortably near the rear of the field, a contrast from his most recent starts where he has lead and  tended to over-race.

The change in riding tactics paid off as he secured a gap between runners on the turn and raced ahead in the straight to beat the consistent galloper Hannibal Ad Portas by half a length.

It was Russian Rocker's third start under trainer Bruce Hill after the gelding was transferred by leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller from his stables late last month.
