Elmantosh starts perfectly for stable at Ipswich

Dec 21, 2012

Elmantosh made the perfect start to his career as part of the Bruce Hill stable with a fighting win in the Ipswich Jets Maiden Handicap (1200m) at Ipswich.

Elmantosh joined the stable during the winter months after beginning his career with Daniel Wheeler.

The three-year-old showed plenty of ability in his two trials to prepare for his first-up assignment with Elmantosh posting a win in his final hit-out at the Gold Coast on December 18.

Paul Hammersley rode Elmantosh in both his trials with the son of Mossman’s efforts convincing the rider to stick with him at this first-up run at Ipswich.

Greasy conditions greeted the duo at Ipswich with persistent showers falling on a surface that was firm early but deteriorated to a dead (5) by the time Elmantosh hit the track but the prevailing circumstances failed to top stop the three-year-old.

Hammersley let Elmantosh find his feet off the pace for the first 700 metres of the 1200m event before pushing his mount along to get closer to the front-runners from the 450 metres.

Elmatosh quickened to be within striking distance of the pacesetters early in the straight before he drove between horses with 150 metres to travel

The gelding had to fight off the challenge of the strong finisher Summers On The Run but had a long head to spare over the runner-up on the line.

Congratulations to Elmantosh’s owners - Michael & Sue McMahon.
