Balkuin streak stretches to five
Sep 26, 2012
Promising sprinter Balkuin continued his rise through the grades with another emphatic win in Class 5 company at Doomben.
Balkuin began his terrific preparation with a maiden win at Doomben on July 18 before the four-year-old reeled off three straight wins to earn his place in the Mater Dei School Handicap (1200m).
The son of Bradbury’s Luck took on Saturday city winners in his latest assignment. Tegan Harrison stuck with Balkuin again after partnering him to victory at Class 3 level at Eagle Farm on September 12.
Harrison decided to take a sit on Balkuin after the gelding set the speed at his previous four wins.
Bakluin revelled in his new role to travel perfectly throughout before Harrison applied pressure to the leader from the 450 metres.
Balkuin shot away early in the straight before holding his opposition to score a comfortable three-quarters of a length victory in the smart time of 1-9.65 for the 1200-metre course.
The sprinting prospect earned another $11,050 for his latest success to take his prizemoney tally to more than $45,000 from his six starts.
Congratulations to Balkuin’s owner – Nev Morgan.
