Four in a row for brilliant Balkuin

Sep 12, 2012

Speedy gelding Balkuin turned in another terrific effort to post his fourth consecutive win in Wednesday’s Ambassador Travel Plate (1300m) at Eagle Farm.

Balkuin has not tasted defeat since joining the Bruce Hill stable late last year. The four-year-old has raced through the grades in impressive fashion before positing his second straight city success in the $17,000 assignment.

Tegan Harrison reunited with Balkuin after riding him to victory at Doomben and the Gold Coast in July and August. The jockey sent the developing sprinter straight to the front where the Balkuin set a reasonable tempo.

Balkuin slipped away from his opposition on the home turn to open a two-length break early in the straight.

The son of Bradbury’s Luck had to fight hard at his first start for three weeks but showed plenty of tenacity to get home by a long head.

The win was the developing galloper’s fourth win from five starts. Balkuin presented his connections with the terrific ‘problem’ of determining a path for the exciting sprinter in the coming weeks.

The Eagle Farm victory took Balkuin’s earnings to more than $34,000.

Congratulations to Balkuin’s owner - Mr Nev Morgan – who also bred the horse
