Balkuin brings up hat trick at Eagle Farm

Aug 22, 2012

Exciting four-year-old Balkuin continued his march through the grades after completing a hat-trick of wins in the Ausbuy Challenge Handicap (1300m) at Eagle Farm.

Balkuin prevailed in a maiden at Doomben in July before winning a Class 1 event at the Gold Coast on August 2 but had to overcome the jump to Class 3 level to win at Eagle Farm.

In-form apprentice Anthony Allen took the reins on Balkuin in Wednesday’s $13,000 race. Allen followed Balkuin’s on-pace routine the gelding had established at his previous starts for the Bruce Hill stable.

The son of Bradbury’s Luck travelled keenly under the 3kg claimer until Allen asked him to sprint rounding the home turn.

Balkuin’s opposition had the entire straight to run him down but the lightly-raced galloper proved too tough to run down in the concluding stages, winning by a long neck.

Balkuin’s win was his third in four starts but he remained undefeated for Bruce Hill Racing with his success, which took his prizemoney tally to more than $23,400.

Congratulations to Balkuin’s owner - Mr N Morgan – who also bred the horse.

Balkuin’s dam is a half-sister to the multiple Sydney Stakes winner Damigos.
