Madame and Hussey make it a double
Nov 13, 2011
The Bruce Hill team enjoyed a good day out at the Gold Coast yesterday when promising mares Madame Sleeper and Our Hussey both recorded victories.
Madame Sleeper was impressive on her home track when taking out the 1200m Class 4 event early in the day.
Under a faultless ride by stable apprentice Tegan Harrison, the daughter of Sequalo was allowed to drift back on the fence before peeling out on the turn and storming down the outside to beat Outcrop by two lengths, with stablemate Royal Charger a further 1.8 lengths away in third place.
The win made it 4 from just 14 starts for the four year old and took her prizemoney to just over $40,000.
Our Hussey racked up her third career win when she scored in the last race on the card.
Also having her fourteenth race start, the Hussonet mare was given a perfectly timed ride by Tony Pattillo. Pattillo had her positioned just in behind the speed and waited for the gap to open in the straight. The run came and his patience paid off when she burst through horses to take out the Class 2 event by just over a length.
Trainer Bruce Hill was delighted with both mares and is happy to keep them at this level for the time being. "I'll just let them go through their grades first and there'll be some nice Fillies & Mares races down the track which they can head towards and I'm sure they'll be very competitive in", Hill stated.
