Talented three year old Startsmeup can cap off his classic season in style by taking out the $50,000 Ownit Homes Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Trained on the Gold Coast by Bruce Hill, Startsmeup proved he’d returned from his recent spell in terrific order with a slashing first up run at Doomben lumping 59.5kg into second behind the inform Excellantes.
Drawn favourably in barrier 4 of the twelve horse field, with Jarrod Fry’s 2kg claim, Startsmeup will notably carry only half a kilo above the minimum despite boasting some impressive from credentials.
In his latest preparation, Startsmeup finished second in the $800,000 Magic Millions Guineas behind runaway Queensland Guineas winner Torio’s Quest, before a similarly impressive second, beaten a nose behind Bullbars in the Group 3 C S Hayes Stakes at Flemington.
With two trials under his belt prior to his first up assignment, Startsmeup should be ready to figure prominently second up over a course and distance in which he already has two wins from three previous attempts.
From barrier 4 Jarrod Fry will likely be able to position his mount the box seat and be within striking distance of his main rival and the likely leader Tierqualo.
At around each way odds, Startsmeup appears terrific value for backers on Saturday.
