Looks like a stayer

Apr 01, 2011

Bruce took up the training of Looklook at the start of the year after it failed previously in Sydney.
Owner Les Cowell believed a change of scene may be just what the Stratum gelding needed.
The Ascot Lodge owner was on the mark.
After some consistent performances and a trip to Melbourne, Looklook finally broke through at Doomben (Mdn, 1650m) on March 30.
Strongly supported, the three-year-old had opponents covered before the turn according to jockey Shane Scriven.
After he settled fourth, Looklook joined in half way up the straight and defeated River Dancing by a neck with Onarohl back in third.
In winning Looklook proved he could handle a heavy track and showed more wins are most possible.
"I didn't think that much of him when he showed up at the start of the year but he has continually improved," Bruce said.
"Though he has a speed breed he gives me the impression he is a stayer in the making.
"He flourished in Melbourne in particular and has just kept improving since.
"I think I will keep stepping him up in distance.
"It was a perfect ride by Scrivo.
"I told him before the race if he could settle him up fourth he would win and the instructions were carried out to the letter."
The win was Looklook's first in six start adding to two minor placings.
In other stable news Startsmeup and Leapfrog will be back in Queensland next week.
Spelled in Melbourne after their campaigns there, the pair have both done well in the paddock.
"I haven't picked out anything certain yet for either but they will be back in work soon," Bruce said.
"Startsmeup didn't have much luck in the Australian Guineas and I will have no hesitation to aim high again.
"I think he has a big race in him."
