Duo provide a Murwillumbah double

Feb 08, 2011

The good run of the yard continued on Monday when Geneva Gold and Bossboss scored a running double in Maidens at Murwillumbah.
For Geneva Gold a long wait to win a race come to an end when stable apprentice Tegan Harrison waited patiently for a rails run at the top of the straight.
Harrison had the four year old mare travelling well on the fence behind the leading division coming to the home turn.
The run came and Geneva Gold dived to score by a neck from Our Rubyjean with Miss Caulfield a further nose away third.
While Geneva Gold has found it hard to win a race, she has been consistent and has rarely run a bad race.
It was her 21st start and the 1530m was run right out.
On form she was the winner and betting reflected that thought when backed from $5 to $3 on track and strongly supported on totes and fixed betting around Australia.
Bossboss picked up his maiden win over 1200m when perfectly ridden by Paul Hammersley.
Settling third on the fence he challenged at the top of the straight and proved too smart in the run to the line.
Wearing the Pink, Maroon Braces, White Cap of the Ascot Lodge Racing Syndicate, Bossboss scored by a neck from Rattle And Roll with Hidden Woman another length away third.
Also well supported from $3.50 to $2.50, Bossboss made good on a trial win at the Gold Coast six days earlier.
While the win looked more workmanlike than brilliant, Bruce believes more wins are in store for the son of Snippetson.
"I think he will be better over more ground, he definitely gives me that indication," Bruce said.
The double brought up the yards 9th winner in three weeks.
"It shows a lot of my horses are better suited to dry ground -  the day it stopped raining the winners started rolling in," Bruce said.
This week Startsmeup and Leapfrog have travelled well to Mornington in Victoria.
The duo will embark on a couple of Autumn carnival races with Startsmeup aimed at next month's $750,000 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington March 5.
