Motown in tune again
Jan 23, 2011
It was particularly pleasing for the stable to see Motown Lady win at Doomben on January 21.
As a two-year-old the now four-year-old mare provided the yard with a big thrill when third in the $2m Magic Millions 2YO Classic beaten 3/4l by Phelan Ready .
That race however took its toll on the daughter of Al Maher and Suburban Blues.
Motown Lady broke down in the off front and needed an operation.
She returned in September 2009 to win again but a year later was sent to Sydney to try her luck at better races for a new yard.
While she picked up a Gosford Class 1 owner Les Cowell was happy to send her back to her originally trainer late last year.
For Bruce she immediately showed her best.
"She needed her first-up hit out but showed us a lot on the track since, she has been thriving," Bruce said.
On Friday, Motown Lady starting $7.50 cruised up to her rivals at the home turn and went away to win with something in hand.
The "Lady" won by 3-1/4 lengths from Dapper with Along Come Dolly 2 lengths away third.
"I haven't got anything in particular set out for her but will see how she comes through the run before entering her again," Bruce said.
"The fact she won so easily over the trip gives rise to a middle distance campaign."
All Motown Lady's three wins have been on rain affected tracks but her top MM effort was on a track rated good.
