Wet track thwarts Startsmeup in $1m MM Guineas

Jan 15, 2011

Top three-year-old Startsmeup ran a gallant second in the $1m Magic Million Guineas (1400m) today on a drying track at the Gold Coast.

The son of Danzero was perfectly ridden by Paul Hammersley and finished powerfully only to find Torio's Quest a tad too good.

After a month of rain in Queensland which has seen most of the state in  flood, drying weather finally arrived at the Gold Coast three days preceeding the race.

While the track reading improved from heavy to slow on race day, it was still a shade too wet for Startsmeup to show his  best.

He again tried his heart out suggesting a big race win is probable.

The stable is proud of his effort.
