Cosmo "the quick" Gal

Mar 25, 2010

Owner Glen Heran pulled the correct strings when he moved Cosmo Gal to the Gold Coast from Sydney.

Heran, a Gold Coast builder, sent the flying filly to Bruce in February after two unplaced runs in Sydney.

"I want to keep her as a broodmare and want to get a few wins on the board," Heran said.

"I thought it may have been a bit tough in Sydney so I sent her to Bruce."

Since, Cosmo Gal has had two starts for her new yard.

She put the writing on the wall when she showed an abundance of speed and faded on slow track to be beaten just under four lengths behind Adebisi at Doomben on March 13.

"She didn't settle that day but was still a chance at the 100m mark," Bruce said.

"I decided to step her back 100m but told Paul (Hammersley) to try to get her to settle."

Bruce selected yesterday’s Eagle Farm 2YO maiden over 1000m.

Hammersley sent Cosmo Gal straight to the front but had her settled within the first 200m.

The Danzero-Certain (by Rory's Jester) filly got away with an cheap sectional down the side before being cranked up before the turn.

Her rivals were under immediate pressure and she had the race won at the 200m mark.

Cosmo Gal, a short-priced favourite, beat Don't Call Me Crazy by 3-1/4 lengths in a quick 57.83 secs (last 600m 34.68).

"I think I will look for a 1200m race in town next, I think she can get the distance," Bruce said.

A city win for Cosmo Gal isn't a big surprise judging on her immediate family.

Her dam Certain has also thrown Neprotain (4 wins, including at Moonee Valley and Flemington), Monaliesha (Eagle Farm winner), Geared Up (four Sydney metro wins), Cortina Gal (2 wins including Wyong Slipper).

"There is a lot of speed in the family and she should make a good broodmare," Heran said.

Bruce adds what a lovely type she really is.

"She really is an impressive type and it is great to win for the Herans.

The Heran brothers (Glen and Marty) own top two-year-old Startsmeup (Danzero-Bluevien) who is back in the stable and likely to race at the tail end of the Brisbane carnival.

"We have a half-sister to Startsmeup going to the Gold Coast June sale," Heran said.

"She really is a lovely yearling by Hussonet getting prepared at Dalby."

"With the potential of Startsmeup, I think she would be a shrewd buy."
