A 187-1 Gold Coast double for yard supporters

Feb 15, 2010

Those sticking to the Bruce Hill yard were rewarded with a 187-1 double at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Maraetai at $18.60 and Go Chloe at $10.10, on UNiTAB, both scored impressive victories on their home track.

Maraetai, only having his ninth start, did it the hard way, being caught wide but being too good for a maiden class over 1400m.

Bruce has given him plenty of time and his future as a middle distance, possibly stayer, looks bright.

"He is a nice horse and his best is yet to come," Bruce said.

Bought on spec at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions sale, Maraetai (by Zeditave) despite plenty of precocious speed lines in his pedigree, has taken time.

In truth, he has never been far from the money having won or been placed in six of those nine starts.

His three unplaced runs have all been on rain affected tracks.

Go Chloe was always up in the first three and drew clear to win with something in hand to win the fillies and mares Class 1 1200m.

The Falvelon-Paris Intrique mare was having only her second start for the yard after starting off her career in Sydney and then spending time on the Gold Coast.

"It was said to me she was a bit difficult and wouldn't eat but since she has arrived she has done nothing but eat," Bruce said.

"She worked great on Tuesday and carried that onto the race."

"She failed to handle the wet track at her first start for us."

Go Chloe's overall time was four lengths quicker than the colts and geldings division and six lengths quicker in the final 600m.

She is owned by Vito Ulliana who also has an upcoming Ice Point filly being trained by Bruce.

The stable only had three horses entered on Saturday with Magic Symphony being beaten into second later in the day.

"She is so gutsy, her turn is surely soon," Bruce said.
